Wastewater heat recovery in sewage channels, sewage system - Gold beneath our feet

The wastewater in the sewer system, in combination with heat pumps and chillers, is an ideal energy source for heating and cooling buildings. Based on experience, the minimum requirements for such a system are: - a wastewater flow rate of approximately 10 l/s - a wastewater temperature level of around 10°C - a power requirement starting from 100 kW (for heating and cooling from about 50 kW). Along the path of the wastewater in the sewer system to the treatment plant, there are many opportunities for utilizing thermal energy. The wastewater can even be used multiple times in succession as an energy source. Despite new inflows, connections to larger collectors, or heat input from cooling systems, the temperature change of the wastewater is usually marginal. Innovative cities have developed energy guidelines that you can refer to in order to determine whether there is a suitable wastewater channel in your vicinity (maximum distance of about 200 m).
