Chromating of Aluminum

Under chromating, we understand the chemical surface treatment with chromate-containing or the passivation with chromium VI-free solutions. The action of chromic acid leads to the formation of complex chromic acid salts (chromates) on metallic surfaces. In this process, the base material is partially dissolved. The dissolved metal ions from the base material are incorporated into the chromate layer. This is classified as a passivation layer, meaning they are inorganic non-metallic protective layers.
