All our berets are made from merino wool. The finest wool in the world, a fiber three times finer than a human hair. The thickness of a merino wool fiber typically ranges from 13 to 24 microns. (For comparison, Shetland sheep wool fibers are 40 microns thick, and a human hair is 60 microns). Wool naturally regulates temperature and humidity. It keeps you warm in winter and stays cool in summer. Under a microscope, the fiber structure appears irregular on the surface and is covered with overlapping scales like shingles. These physical characteristics allow wool to trap air within its fibers, slowing its movement. The air captured acts as an insulator, protecting the head from the external environment. Unlike synthetic fibers, merino wool can absorb up to 30% of its weight in water while still appearing dry (with an absorption rate 100 to 150 times higher than that of polyester)...
