Steel barrels intended for the transport and storage of hazardous goods must be tested for tightness. 200-liter steel barrels designated for the transport of hazardous materials are tested for tightness by the barrel manufacturers. Our fully automated leak testing system uses helium or ambient air as test gases, depending on the sensitivity of the test. The test gases are detected using a mass spectrometer. The test specimen is the 200-liter steel barrel. The barrels are sealed and transported into a large testing chamber. In the chamber, a vacuum is created, and any potential test gas leaks through the walls or closures are measured.
