The vertical agitators (screw augers) installed in 2002 during the last comprehensive renovation of the digesters have been out of operation for years and are to be removed. Given the good operational results, only the external circulation will be maintained in the future. Since the digesters have been in operation for over 15 years without being emptied and occasional signs of sand deposits have been observed, the removal of the agitators will be used for a complete emptying of the digesters along with a thorough inspection of their structural condition.
