Stereolithography

Stereolithography (SLA or SL; also known as optical manufacturing, photo-solidification, freeform solid fabrication, and solid imaging) is an additive manufacturing or 3D printing technology used to produce models, prototypes, patterns, and production parts layer by layer by curing a photoreactive resin with a UV laser or another similar energy source. How does SLA work? First, the SLA machine begins drawing the support structures layer by layer. The part itself is traced with a UV laser directed onto the surface of a liquid thermosetting resin. Secondly, when a layer is represented on the resin surface, the build platform moves down, and a coating bar moves across the platform to apply the next layer of resin.
