Barley groats are a type of groats made from common barley grains. They are one of the most popular types of groats in Poland. They are also known as cracked groats. Depending on the processing method, barley groats are obtained from cleaned, hulled, and chopped grains, but they are not polished. Depending on the degree of coarseness, we distinguish between coarse, medium, and fine barley groats. All varieties of barley groats contain a high amount of fiber. Barley groats are a rich source of B vitamins, particularly vitamins B1, B2, and B6, as well as vitamins E, K, PP, folic acid, and minerals such as silicon, zinc, calcium, manganese, and copper. Coarse groats pair excellently with various sauces, including mushroom and meat sauces. They can also be a great ingredient for soups and stuffed vegetables.
