Metal Injection Moulding (MIM)

Metal Injection Moulding (MIM) is based on the principle of injection molding, which is the undisputed number one in the mass production of plastic components. MIM combines the advantages of injection molding with the material properties of metals. Injection molding is the most widely used process in the mass production of plastic parts. By mixing metallic powder with a binder, the advantages of the process can also be utilized for metallic components. The binder coats the metal powder particles and allows for shaping without heating the metal to melting temperature. Subsequently, the binder is removed, and the metal powder is sintered and compacted. Due to the use of various metal powders, there are hardly any restrictions on the choice of alloy. However, piece weights are limited to 0.1 g to 200 g. Therefore, the process is particularly suitable for very small components in high quantities.
