Chateau Sociando Mallet, AOC Haut Médoc - Gautreau Family

Since the 17th century, Sociando-Mallet has occupied the hill of Baleyron, one of the finest gravel terroirs in the Médoc. Located in the municipality of Saint-Seurin-de-Cadourne, north of Pauillac, its vineyard overlooks the estuary of the Gironde. A document dating back to March 1633 refers to noble lands in this municipality, belonging to an aristocrat of Basque origin named Sociondo, one of whose family members was the bishop of Bayonne. Over the years, "Sociondo" (or "Sossiondo") became "Sociando" due to a spelling error. Their bouquet is complex, usually dominated by notes of dark fruits, a hint of minerality, and well-integrated fine oak. Often a bit "masculine" in their youth, the wines gain harmony and complexity with age. They are characterized by their freshness, straightness, and beautiful length.
