ORIGIN Red Wine Côtes de Francs The origins of Château Ad Francos date back to the 6th century, when Clovis, the first Christian king of France, defeated the Visigoths and conquered the land of Aquitaine. A Frankish garrison settled at that time on this strategic hill which was named "Ad Francos" (literally meaning "at the Franks"), thus giving its name to the current village, Francs. The castle, whose construction spans from the 9th to the 18th century, is an eclectic jewel of Romanesque and Gothic architecture. Major epidemics, the Hundred Years' War, the great invasions, the Wars of Religion, and the Revolution have all marked the history of the castle. The various families that succeeded one another have expanded the castle over the years, each leaving their mark. After the French Revolution and the collapse of the lineage of the lords established in Francs, the castle was sold to the ancestors of Michel Rolland, a world-renowned oenologist.
