A box cooler is a water cooling system for ships. It consists of a set of U-shaped tubes mounted in a submerged casing on the side of the vessel, which saves space in the engine room. The submerged casing is equipped with intake and discharge grilles. The cooling seawater enters through the intake grille and flows along the U-shaped tubes to the discharge grille, thereby cooling the water inside the tubes. The cooling effect is achieved by the forced circulation of seawater when the boat is in motion or by natural convection when it is stationary.
