Carbon - Sulfur Analysis

Carbon as total organic carbon (TOC), total inorganic carbon (TIC), or total carbon (TC) and sulfur as total sulfur content and its oxidation forms are simultaneously determined using a combination of induction and resistance furnaces (EDF technology). The C/S analysis is based on the combustion of samples in an oxygen stream and IR detection of the stepwise generated gases CO2 and SO3. A fractionated determination of free carbon, free sulfur, carbides, and sulfates is possible due to different combustion temperatures. Inorganic samples (including alloyed and unalloyed steel, cast iron, copper and copper alloys, ceramics, ores, cement, lime, gypsum, sand, glass, rocks) and organic samples (including coal, coke, wood, soot, rubber, waste, soil, plants, mineral oils) can be analyzed with a sample weight of 500 mg in the range of 0.1% to 5% for carbon and 0.3% to 30% for sulfur.
